Alvarion deploys 4G Smart City network in Houston

Alvarion and the Houston municipality worked together to design a 4G wireless broadband network that meets the city’s needs.

Alvarion Ltd. (Nasdaq: ALVR; TASE: ALVR) has deployed a 4G municipal network with the City of Houston. The municipality's Smart City project enables it to offer advanced municipal services, such as public safety and traffic optimization solutions, and consistent access to information. Alvarion did not disclose the size of the deal.

Alvarion and the Houston municipality worked together to design a 4G wireless broadband network that meets the city’s needs. The project was named the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors 2010 Community Broadband Wireless Network of the Year for its creativity in designing and deploying a wireless network to serve institutional and public needs.

Alvarion president and CEO Eran Gorev said, "Smart City projects are a hugely gratifying market sector for us as a technology provider. Over the years we’ve been following the needs of our municipal and government customers and our solutions in this field are state-of-the-art. We’ve learned how to help cities offer their residents fundamental and advanced services such as connectivity hotspots, personal security and online municipal services, while allowing them to control costs."

Alvarion's share price rose 1.7% in early trading on Nasdaq today to $1.85, giving a market cap of $107 million, after rising 1.5% on the TASE to NIS 6.53.
