Employment data shows continued improvement

Since June 2009, there has been a drop of 15% in the number of unemployed.

A report by the Israel National Employment Service (INES) today shows that the fall in unemployment is continuing.

There was a seasonally adjusted drop of 0.7% in the number of unemployed in February, at 180,500, compared to January, when the figure was 181,800.

The trend began in June, 2009, when the number of unemployed persons in Israel reached 211,500. Since then, there has been a drop of 15% in the number of unemployed.

There was a 14.3% drop in the number of employees laid off, at 12,200, compared with 14,300 in January.

Another positive sign was that in February the employment service saw a 1.1% rise in demand for workers, at 25,600, compared with the corresponding month of 2010.

There were 200,200 jobseekers in February, down from 201,300 in January.
