Israel using UAVs to protect offshore gas fields

Israeli defense officials said that the Air Force was operating the UAVs over the gas fields following Hizbullah threats to the gas fields.

Israel is using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to protect its offshore natural gas fields from possible terrorist attacks by Hizbullah, news agencies report. The IDF declines to confirm or deny the reports.

The decision to deploy drones was made in order to maintain a 24-hour presence over the site. Earlier, Israeli defense officials said that the Air Force was operating the UAVs over the gas fields following Hizbullah threats to the gas fields.

Hizbullah sharpened its threats after the Israeli cabinet approved the map of the border of Israel's exclusive economic zone in the Mediterranean, including the border with Lebanon.
