Fischer welcomes Trajtenberg recommendations

Fischer favorably noted that the Trajtenberg committee's recommendations maintain the fiscal framework laid out by the government.

Governor of the Bank of Israel Prof. Stanley Fischer today welcomed the submission of the Trajtenberg committee on social and economic change's recommendations to the government, but added that the economic change needed does not end with the submission of the committee's recommendations.

Fischer favorably noted that the Trajtenberg committee's recommendations maintain the fiscal framework laid out by the government, which is crucial to the credibility of macroeconomic policy and to the financial stability of Israel's economy, especially at this sensitive time for the global economy.

Fischer said that, to the extent that the government adopts the recommendations, they should bring significant change in the economic agenda in Israel in the coming years. It is now the government's responsibility to deal with the recommendations and reach decisions. He hopes that the processes of decision making, and of legislation as necessary, will be efficient and take place within a reasonable amount of time.
