Appceleration Inc. has acquired US-Israeli start-up Particle Code Ltd., which has developed a development tool for the mobile environment. The companies did not disclose the size of the deal, but it was probably for only a few million dollars at the most.
According to IVC, Particle Code raised $500,000. Particle Code CEO Galia Benartzi, CTO Yotam Shacham, chief architect Yudi Levy, and chairman Guy Benartzi founded the company, originally called Real Dice, in 2007. Galia and Guy Benartzi are the children of NetManage founder Amatzia Benartzi, who invested in the company.
Just over a year ago, Particle Code's founders sold subsidiary MyTopia, a developer of online poker, bingo, and other games for social networks to 888 Holding plc (LSE:888) for $18 million in cash. Last month, 888 announced that it wrote off most of the investment.
Appcelerator said that the acquisition of Particle Code would enable it to expand its own platform to become the first mobile platform to offer an integrated native, hybrid, and HTML5 web application solution for platform that are not based on the iPhone or Android.
Despite its Israeli origins, Particle Code's 12 employees are based in Silicon Valley.
