Thu: Tel Aviv 25 Index down 1% on week

Telecom companies dragged the TASE down, but Teva and Mellanox bucked the market.

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) fell today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index fell 0.79% to 1,105.21 points, the Tel Aviv 100 Index fell 0.77% to 1,010.26 points, and the BlueTech 50 Index fell 0.19% to 295.98 points. Turnover was NIS 841.7 million.

The TASE fell today in thin trading, in line with losses in European markets, although Wall Street rose at the opening. The Tel Aviv 25 Index fell 1% for the week, after falling 0.4% last week, a short trading week due to the general strike.

In the bond market, long-term Shahar unlinked government bonds and long-term Galil CPI-linked bonds rose by up to 0.1%. The corporate bond benchmark Tel-Bond 20 Index rose 0.26%.

In the foreign currency market, the Bank of Israel set the shekel-dollar representative exchange rate at NIS 3.771/$, up 0.99% on yesterday's rate, and set the shekel-euro representative exchange rate at NIS 4.898/€, down 0.27%.

In the stock market, Mellanox Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq:MLNX; TASE:MLNX) rose 2.1% and Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Nasdaq: TEVA; TASE: TEVA) rose 1.4% on the day's biggest turnover of NIS 60 million. They were the only Tel Aviv 25 stocks to buck the market.

Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) fell 2.7% for the biggest loss among Tel Aviv 25 shares and Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) fell 2.2%. Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) fell 1.9% and HOT Telecommunication Systems Ltd. (TASE: HOT) fell 1.2% to round off the sector's losses.

NICE Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: NICE; TASE: NICE) fell 2.1%, shedding yesterday's gains. Tower Semiconductor Ltd. (Nasdaq: TSEM; TASE: TSEM) rose 2.7% on strong financials, to complete a 16% gain for the week. LivePerson Inc. (Nasdaq: LPSN); TASE: LPSN) rose another 3.6% on top of yesterday's 14.5% jump.

Menorah Mivtachim Holdings Ltd. (TASE: MORA) fell 3.3% after announcing a restructuring. The Insurance Index fell 2.5%.

BiolineRX Ltd. (Nasdaq: BLRX); TASE:BLRX) fell 9.6% after announcing a secondary offering on Nasdaq, and Protalix Biotherapeutics Inc. (AMEX:PLX; TASE: PLX) was unchanged after a similar announcement. Orckit Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: ORCT; TASE: ORCT) fell 27.4% after announcing a debt settlement with its bondholders.
