Speed cameras begin sending tickets today

The Police still decline to disclose the speed at which tickets will be issued.

The new digital speed cameras will begin issuing tickets today, after a month-long dry run. The Israel Police are keeping its ambiguity about the speed at which the fines will kick in, or if it will offset the threshold depending on the number of tickets issued.

"I cannot say at what speed we will begin enforcement," National Traffic Police director Commander Meir Or told “IDF Radio" (Galei Zahal) today. "It is quite possible that we'll enforce different speeds at two different sections of a road."

Last month, the Traffic Police conducted a pilot of the new speed cameras. 1,000 warnings were sent to drivers for speeding, and 250 warnings for running a red light.
