Israel Railways management today suspended workers committee chairwoman Gila Edri for three months. The decision at Edri's hearing was based on complaints filed by four Railways executives about her invective against them. Edri stormed out of the hearing in a rage, after the Railways management rejected her demand that the four executives who filed the complaint should be summoned to the hearing.
Israel Railways chairman Uri Yogev told "Globes", "An employee who commits a disciplinary infraction will have disciplinary action taken against him, up to being fired."
Meanwhile, the Railways workers committee is continuing its labor sanctions against the outsourcing of the new rolling stock maintenance to Canada's Bombardier Inc. (TSX: BBD). At 5 am, Railways activists organized a wake up call with megaphones and whistles for Minister of Transport Israel Katz at his home in Moshav Kfar Ahim. They were dispersed by the minister's security.
Yesterday, the Railways workers committee intensified its sanctions. As of this morning, conductors will not check passengers' tickets, and the Railways' training school for drivers and other staff is closed.
