Hotels, 1,000 apartments planned for Eilat Airport site

2,080 hotel rooms and 1,000 apartments will be built on the site of the Eilat Airport, after it is vacated.

2,080 hotel rooms and 1,000 apartments will be built on the site of the Eilat Airport, after it is vacated, under the Southern District Planning and Building Commission plan, which has been approved for deposit. The Israel Land Authority is promoting the plan, following the government decision to build a new airport for the resort at Timna.

The hotel, recreation, and residential plan will also include 275-dunam (63.75-acres) of open public space and pedestrian paths. It also sets aside land for the railway line and an underground train station adjacent to the Eilat Municipality center and central bus station.

The plan aims to create an urban continuum between the Eilat town center and the North Beach tourism area and promenade. It also aims to tighten the links between the town's neighborhoods, which are currently separated by the airport.
