Sources inform ''Globes'' that Samsung's new smartphone, the Galaxy S3, which will be launched worldwide tomorrow (but not in Israel due to lack of approval from the Ministry of Communications), has embedded security technology made by Israel's Discretix Technologies Ltd. The Galaxy S3 should be marketed in Israel in a few weeks.
Discretix develops DRM flash memory processors which are embedded in the memory. For the Galaxy S3, the company provides encrypted access for high definition (HD) video and TV broadcasting applications. The security solution can support HD quality video, movies and premium TV content, which require protection. The company's Wi-Fi Display technology also gives the Galaxy S3 the ability to securely stream content, such as movies and games via wireless to a TV screen. The solution uses TrustZone ARM security technology.
"Discretix believes that the new smartphones are becoming increasingly important in users' daily lives, and they will quickly become the main way vide and TV services are consumed," says Discretix CEO Coby Sella.
Discretix predicts that companies such as Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (KSX: 5380), Motorola Mobility, LG Electronics Inc. (KSX: 66570), Panasonic Corporation's (TSE: 6752; NYSE: PC), Sharp Corporation (TSE: 6753) and Intel will sell 50 million smartphones with its embedded technology. In April, the company signed an agreement with Taiwan's HTC Corporation (TWSE: 2498) to embed Discretix technology in its new flagship handset, One, which is due to arrive in Israel in June.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 will offer wireless recharging via a peripheral that will be sold separately. To recharge the smartphone, it need to be laid on a special surface, with no need for a cord. The smartphone will reportedly use Duracell-Powermat technology, jointly developed by Duracell and Israel's Powermat Technologies Ltd.
The Galaxy S3 has a 4.8-inch screen compared with the Galaxy S2's 4.3-inch screen.
