Suture co Via Surgical raises $1m

Via Surgical has developed a suture-like mesh fixation device for durable and easy fixation of soft tissue prosthetics, including hernia meshes.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that Via Surgical Ltd. has raised $1 million from former Israel Air Force commander Major General David Ivri, a group of US doctors, and Orange Blossom Ventures.

Via Surgical was founded by CEO Ofek Levin, CTO Arik Levy, and CFO Len Levin, who previously founded PolyTouch Medical, which they sold to Covidien plc (NYSE: COV) for $30-40 million.

Via Surgical has developed SutureLAPTM, a suture-like mesh fixation device for durable and easy fixation of soft tissue prosthetics, including hernia mesh products, for a variety of procedures. Proper mesh fixation in hernia repair is crucial to a patient’s quick recovery, low post-procedure morbidity, and reduced rate of hernia recurrence. The company plans to introduce the product in the US in 2013.
