Retail proceeds down 0.9% in Q2

Sales value at chain stores goods fell by 0.9% in constant prices in the second quarter of 2012, after rising 4.2% in the preceding quarter.

Sales value at chain stores goods fell by 0.9% in constant prices in the second quarter of 2012, after rising 4.2% in the preceding quarter, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today. Supermarkets' sales proceeds fell by 1% in the second quarter, after rising 3.3% in the preceding quarter.

The Central Bureau of Statistics also reported that revenue Indices of all Industries according to VAT data rose by an annualized 2.7% in May 2012, after falling by 0.1% in December-April. Trade and services proceeds rose by an annualized 7.1% in May, after rising 3.2% in December-February, but industrial proceeds fell by an annualized 6.6% in May, after falling 8.3% in December-February.

Industrial output rose by an annualized 4.5% in March-May. Industrial output, excluding high tech, rose by 1.8%. Domestic sales proceeds rose by 8.2% in constant prices in March-May, and export sales proceeds rose by 14.9%. The number of manufacturing jobs rose by 1.1% in March-May and the number of work-hours rose by the same amount.
