Enterprise mobile security app developer MobileSpaces Inc. has raised $3 million in its first financing round from Accel Partners. The solution aims to protect corporate apps and data on personal mobile devices, helping enterprises address the mobile bring your own device trend.

MobileSpaces cites research, which states that over 40% of mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, at enterprises are personally owned, and that the trend is accelerating and will greatly increase enterprise mobile adoption. However, by mixing work and life on the same smart device, it creates a new set of challenges for enterprises.

The solution of MobileSpaces runs on all mobile devices to separate enterprise data from other information, by inserting a password-protected firewall to access enterprise data.

MobileSpaces CEO David Goldschlag and CTO Yoav Weiss founded the company in 2011. Goldschlag is a former VP mobile at McAfee, while Weiss in the distant past was one of the first employees of Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP) The Washington DC-based company has its development center in Petah Tikva and 12 employees.

Goldschlag said, "The mobile world is shifting from closed, email-centric devices that are owned by the enterprise, to open, app-centric devices that are selected by the user. MobileSpaces makes it easy for enterprises to govern their apps and data while respecting the privacy of the employee."
