Ben Gurion Airport fees cut

Fees for departing passengers will be reduced by 4% from 2013.

Fees for departing passengers will be reduced by 4% from 2013, the Israel Airports Authority announced today. Airports Authority CFO Zvi Tshuva notified airlines that the fee for departing passengers, which is included in their fares, and which is updated every year on the basis of the Fees Regulations, will be cut by 4% in January 2013.

The fee for a passenger departing from Ben Gurion Airport's Terminal 3 will fall to $24.07 in 2013 from $25.10 in 2012, and the fee for a passenger departing from the airport's Terminal 1 will fall to $11.08 from $11.57.

The Airports Authority said that the update was part of a general update of dollar-denominated fees for international aviation, which were reduced by 4%, due to the rise in the shekel-dollar exchange rate during the year. The Airports Authority operates as a commercial entity, without government support, and all its income comes from aviation fees and commercial operations. Each of these two activities generates about half of the Airport Authority's revenue.

"Globes" recently reported that the Airport Authority's revenue from passenger fees and services totaled NIS 932 million in 2011. Revenue from commercial activities at airports totaled NIS 1.17 billion, and revenue from aircraft landing fees and services to aircraft totaled NIS 368 million.
