Accounting firms beat lawyers in World Tax rankings for Israel

CPA firms dominate Israel's tax area, and large law firms continue to win work from boutique firms.

CPA firms dominate Israel's tax area, and large law firms continue to win work from boutique firms, according to the 2013 rankings of tax consultants at CPA and law firms by World Tax.

This year, World Tax ranks the CPA and law firms and their top tax adviser on the basis of three quality criteria, instead of the four criteria used last year. As last year, this year, the rankings are dominated by the big firms which have the broadest local and international infrastructures, and the big CPA firms top the table.

The top five ranking firms, in alphabetical order are Deloitte Brightman Almagor Zohar, Israel's fifth largest CPA firm, Ernst & Young Israel, the country's largest CPA firm with over 1,700 CPAs; Somekh Chaikin KPMG Israel, the country's second largest CPA firm; Kesselman & Kesselman pwc Israel, the country's third largest CPA firm; and Herzog Fox Neeman Law Offices, which continues to lead in many criteria even after losing its rank as Israel's largest law firm to the merged Goldfarb Seligman & Co. law firm.

Among other tax advisers, World Tax mentions Deloitte Brightman Almagor Zohar tax department head Zvi Friedman, Ernst & Young Israel's tax department head Sharon Shulman, Somekh Chaikin KPMG Israel's Eran Shalev, pwc Israel's Gerry Seligman, and Herzog Fox Neeman's Meir Linzen.
