Social contact synchronization co Sync.ME raises $4m

Sync.ME says that it has five million users and that it synchronizes over one billion contacts worldwide each week.

Social contact synchronization service Sync.ME, previously known as SmartSync, has raised $4 million from private investors. The company has raised $4.5 million to date.

Sync.ME CEO Shlomo Unger and CTO Chen Weiner, founded the company a year ago. Its app allows every user to manage a kind of visiting card or business card that includes a phone number of personal details that he or she chooses to disclose on a social network. This information is frequently synchronized, making it possible to update friends' phone numbers, job, or residence.

The app also attracts pictures and updates from Facebook and presents the latest status that the contract person has uploaded to the social network. The app is sold for $0.99 in Apple Inc.'s (Nasdaq: AAPL) App Stores, and Sync.ME intends to offer for-pay app services for businesses. For example, a local pizzeria can directly update users on its list of contacts about discounts, if the users have saved the pizzeria's phone number.

Sync.ME says that it has five million users and that it synchronizes over one billion contacts worldwide each week.

The company plans to use proceeds from the financing round to develop the app for Android devices and Facebook apps, which will enable it to expand its user base.
