Gilat is partnering with China's Huawei in the deal.
Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (Nasdaq: GILT; TASE: GILT) has teamed with China's Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. to supply Gilat's SkyAbis cellular backhaul solution to a major Southeast Asian mobile carrier. Gilat will supply and install a SkyEdge II hub, SkyEdge II Pro VSATs (very small aperture terminals), and related services including remote site installation. The company did not disclose the name of the customer or the size of the deal.
"We are pleased to be partnering with Huawei on such an advanced cellular backhaul deployment," said Gilat regional VP Asia Stephane Palomba. "As many carriers are looking to extend their cellular coverage to more remote locations, cellular backhaul via satellite is the optimal solution for rapid, economical deployment."
