2,800 apartments zoned for Tel Hashomer base

The new neighborhood will be served by the Tel Aviv light rail's purple line, and create continuity between Or Yehuda, Ganei Yehuda, Kiryat Ono, and Ramat Gan.

The Tel Aviv Regional Planning and Building Commission has approved for deposit the Eucalyptus Nature Reserve plan, which includes vacating the IDF Tel Hashomer base outside Tel Aviv, and building 2,800 housing units and related services on the site.

The new neighborhood will include a eucalyptus reserve. It will be served by the Tel Aviv light rail's purple line, and create planning continuity between Or Yehuda, Ganei Yehuda, Kiryat Ono, and Ramat Gan. The plan includes rezoning 740 dunam (185 acres) of agricultural land in the eastern part of the IDF base for residential, commercial, and office use, as well as public buildings.

The plan is divided into two areas, the first of which proposes 2,800 housing units, of which 120 will be special needs apartments, and 20% (560 apartments) will be rental apartments. The plan also includes 8,000 square meters of commercial space, 100,000 square meters of public buildings, and 200 dunam (50 acres) of open public space, including parks which will integrate the eucalyptus groves.

The second area, 150 dunam (37.5 acres) in area, is zoned for residential space, public buildings, open public space, and space set aside for future development.
