Arkia, Israir add scheduled flights to Europe

Israir will also make scheduled flights to Rhodes, Arkia will make scheduled flights to Oslo and Helsinki, and both airlines will fly to Crete.

Minister of Transport Yisrael Katz today granted permission for Arkia Airlines Ltd. and Israir Airlines and Tourism Ltd. to resume scheduled flights between Ben Gurion Airport and Crete, on the basis of the Israeli-Greek aviation agreement signed in October 2010. Until now, there have only been charter flights to Crete.

Katz also granted Israir permission to operate scheduled flights between Ben Gurion Airport and Rhodes.

Last month, Katz granted Arkia permission to operate scheduled flights between Ben Gurion Airport and Olso and Helsinki.

Katz approved the recommendation of the Israel Civil Aviation Authority to grant Arkia and Israir scheduled carrier status on these routes.

"In the past four years, Israel has signed dozens of aviation agreements with European countries, allowing more airlines to make scheduled flights to and from Israel," said Katz.
