Banks refunded NIS 2.4m after complaints in 2012

The Banking Supervision Department found that 21.5% of the 1,253 complaints filed in 2012 were justified.

Banks refunded NSI 2.4 million to customers who filed complaints with the Banking Supervision Department in 2012, the Bank of Israel reported today.

The Banking Supervision Department found that 21.5% of the 1,253 complaints filed in 2012 were justified, down from 26.1% of the complaints which were found justified in 2011. The Bank of Israel attributed the drop to positive action taken by two of the country's five big banks.

Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) and First International Bank of Israel (TASE: FTIN) had the highest rating, on the basis of the four criteria the Bank of Israel applies in processing public enquiries and complaints. It added that First International Bank and Mizrahi Tefahot Bank (TASE:MZTF) improved their rankings in the past two years.
