Cabinet approves concentration law

The concentration in the economy law is aimed at reducing concentration and increasing competition.

The cabinet today approved the concentration in the economy law and the budget proposal for 2013-14. The concentration in the economy law is aimed at reducing concentration and increasing competition. Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor Naftali Bennett will be responsible for implementing it.

The concentration in the economy law, which is based on the recommendations of the Committee to Increase Competition in the Economy, has three pillars: the overall weight of concentration nationwide and competitiveness in privatizations proposed by the government; restrictions on business pyramids; and separation of financial and non-financial holdings.

The cabinet also approved Minister of Finance Yair Lapid's proposal for a budget for 18 months through the end of 2014. Beginning in 2015, Israel will revert to annual budgets.
