New mortgage grants slow slightly

NIS 3.8 billion worth of new mortgages were granted in April.

The amount of new mortgages is continuing at around NIS 4 billion a month, according to mortgage figures for April 2013, published by the Bank of Israel today. It states that the public took NIS 3.8 billion in new mortgages in April.

The amount of variable interest mortgages has stayed high, amounting to NIS 2.85 billion in April. Fixed-interest mortgages totaled NIS 974 million.

In March, the amount of new mortgages rose by 2.7% to NIS 4 billion, despite the Passover holiday and new restrictions by the Bank of Israel. New mortgages totaled NIS 3.8 billion in February.

Even though the amount of new mortgages has stayed at a high level, the amount of new mortgages in April was the lowest since October 2012, when NIS 3.3 billion worth of new mortgages were granted.
