Israeli cos provide translation services for Google apps

One Hour Translation offers translations in 73 languages by 15,000 translators, and Tomedes employs 8,000 translators in 100 languages.

Two Israeli companies are behind Google Inc.'s (Nasdaq: GOOG) new translation service for applications, which the company unveiled at its I/O developers conference in San Francisco last week. Google offers the service for Android app developers who want their apps translated in order to increase exposure around the world.

App developers can purchase translations via Google's Play development console. One Hour Translation Ltd., which offers translations in 73 languages by 15,000 translators, and Tomedes Ltd., which employs 8,000 translators in 100 languages, are two of the companies behind Google's service.

"On Play, there are more than 700,000 apps, most of which are only in English," says One Hour Translation CEO Dr. Lior Libman. "For most Android developers, localization of an app will boost revenue, because more users will be exposed to them. Many users who are not English speakers prefer installing and using an app in their mother tongue."
