Interior minister wants to extend daylight savings time

The government and Knesset will have to approve Gideon Sa'ar's decision.

"I have decided to institute in Israel a new daylight savings time through the end of October, per the norm in Europe," announced Minister of the Interior Gideon Sa'ar on his Facebook page today. "The extra hours of daylight will improve the quality of life of Israel's people."

The decision was made at the recommendation of a committee he established for this purpose. In Israel, daylight savings currently ends in early October. The government and Knesset will have to approve Sa'ar's decision.

"I've sent a memo to amend the Setting the Time Law. I will submit the new daylight savings time law to the government and the Knesset during the current Knesset session so that it will come into effect this October. The new daylight savings time is a light unto Israel," Sa'ar said.
