Apple to open Hadera school development center

Students at the Amal High School's center, which will open next week, will develop iOS-based apps for iPads and iPhones.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) will inaugurate the first entrepreneurship development center of its kind at the interdisciplinary arts and sciences Amal High School in Hadera next week. The students will develop iOS-based apps for iPads and iPhones.

The Apple center was established with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education. The outstanding students selected for the development project will learn application development and marketing. Apple has made available experts in technology innovation to train the center's teachers and students. It will also donate Macs and iPads to provide the technology environment for developing apps. The equipment will be donated via Apple's Israeli distributor iDigital Ltd.

Apps developed at the center will be available for sale at the App Store. In the second stage, Apple will examine ways for the students to share in revenue from the sales.

Amal CEO Ravit Dom initiated the Entrepreneurship Center to teach business management and financial thinking combined with practical experience, with the goal of narrowing gaps and improving the education system in disadvantaged areas. The entrepreneurship training will be provided in collaboration with the educational NPO Unistream. The Entrepreneurship Center is designed in the spirit of high-tech companies' development centers to offer the atmosphere and serenity for individual and team activity in research and teaching corners.

The project will accept 60 9th and 10th grade students from the school who were selected on the basis of their talents and passion for entrepreneurship. Dom personally interviewed the selected students. The program will later be expanded to students from other Hadera schools.

"The Entrepreneurship Center rests on three pillars: a tight link between academics, practical experience in the industry and with medical and research institutions, and mini business administration at the highest level. This combination will help students meet global competition and lead the Israeli economy to new technological achievements."
