Tel Aviv Municipality: Two plates were found to be flawed, and had to be replaced, requiring the overpass to be closed.
The Rokach overpass in north Tel Aviv has been closed since 11:30 am today for urgent repairs. It will reopen at 6 am tomorrow. The eastbound lanes of Rokach Boulevard at the intersection with Ibn Gvirol Street are also closed, and the southbound lanes on Bnei Efraim Street at the intersection of KKL Street are closed, subject to traffic congestion.
The police are asking the public to avoid the area, including Rokach Boulevard, Namir Road, Shai Agnon Street, and Levi Eshkol Street, because of the congestion, and to use alternative routes.
The Tel Aviv Municipality said that routine work was carried out, which included washing the bridge with high-pressure hoses to test if a large percentage of iron had been exposed in the concrete. Two plates were found to be flawed, and had to be replaced, requiring the overpass to be closed. There is no danger of collapse, but the repairs could not be postponed.
