Phoenicia Glass Works Yeruham switches to gas

The bottle factory inaugurated its new furnace today, and is set for expansion.

Phoenicia Glass Works in Yeruham has enetered the natural gas age. Today, the factory's management inaugurated the new furnace that will operate on natural gas, and will make production more efficient. Phoenicia Glass Works Yeruham is Israel's sole manufacturer of glass bottles, and, with its expansion, it is expected to produce about a million bottles a day, to meet both local and overseas demand.

The construction of the new furnace was made possible by an investment of NIS 100 million by Israel Equity, controlled by Morton Mandel. The factory employs 230 people, and is expected to take on more.

Today's ceremony was attended by Mandel, Phoenicia's senior management, Minister of Energy and Water Resources Silvan Shalom, and senior managers from Noble Energy. The gas supply agreement between Phoenicia and Noble Energy was signed at the ceremony.
