Bank charges fall

The average monthly cost for checking accounts was NIS 14.10 in the second half of 2012, 3% less than in the first half of the year, states Supervisor of Banks David Zaken in the semiannual report on banking household services prices submitted to the Knesset Economic Affairs Committee today.

Bank Yahav for Government Employees Ltd. is by far the cheapest bank, with a monthly cost for checking accounts of NIS 6.10. Israel Discount Bank (TASE: DSCT) subsidiary Mercantile Discount Bank and Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) subsidiary Ai Bank are the most expensive banks, with a monthly cost for checking accounts of NIS 21.50 and NIS 19.70, respectively.

Among the big five banks, Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI) is the cheapest, with a a monthly cost for checking accounts of NIS 11.90, and Mizrahi Tefahot Bank (TASE:MZTF) is the most expensive, at NIS 16.30.

There is also a wide difference in credit card fees. The average monthly cost of local, international, and gold cards range from Isracard Ltd., at NIS 4.50, to Israel Credit Cards-Cal Ltd. (ICC-Cal) (Visa), at NIS 9.50.
