Yigal Brightman, a founding partner of Deloitte Brightman Almagor Zohar, and one of Israel's leading and best known accountants, was killed in a light plane crash in Eilat on Thursday. He was 68. Two people were injured in the crash, and taken to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva.
The plane, which departed from Herzliya Airport, crashed between the Eilat Airport and the city center.
Brightman founded the CPA firm Brightman & Co. in 1972. In 1994, the firm became an affiliate of Deloitte Touch Tohmatsu., and expanded over the years by merging with other firms. In 1999, it changed its name to Deloitte Brightman Almagor, following the merger with Almagor & Co., and in 2008, it merged with Zohar & Co.
Brightman recently slammed the public criticism of corporate tax breaks. "Tax hikes will drive multinationals out of Israel, to countries where investment in knowledge-rich industries is more worthwhile, such as Switzerland, Ireland, and Luxembourg," he said. He added that multinationals contribute jobs and exports to Israel, boosting tax revenues.
