7,600 homes to be built in Kiryat Gat

Marketing will be under a special blanket agreement, which sets an abbreviated timetable and pre-financing for the construction of infrastructures.

Minister of Housing and Construction Uri Ariel, Prime Minister's Office director general Harel Locker, Israel Land Administration director Benzi Lieberman, and Kiryat Gat Mayor Aviram Dahari today signed an agreement for an expedited program to build 7,598 homes in the town. Marketing will be under a special blanket agreement, which sets an abbreviated timetable and pre-financing for the construction of infrastructures by the relevant ministries.

The idea behind blanket agreements is the realization that homes cannot be built without infrastructures, such as sewers, roads, and public buildings, which sometimes greatly delay the issuing of building permits for land sold by the Israel Land Administration. For example, in Rosh Ha'Ayin, land was sold for housing two years ago, but the first building permits have only now been issued, because of the lack of transport and infrastructures. The blanket agreement applies to all the relevant ministries, the Israel Land Administration, and the municipality, in order to expedite the approval of plans for buildings and infrastructures.

Lieberman said, "We welcome the signing of this agreement today, as planned by the Israel Land Administration. Blanket agreements will be implemented in Rosh Ha'Ayin, where 10,000 housing units will be marketed. The plan will double the town of 9,000 households. In Modi'in, 11,000 housing units will be marketed, increasing the size of this new city, which has 21,000 households, 1.5-fold. The blanket agreement will also allow the expedited construction of 7,598 housing units in Kiryat Gat, 8,500 housing units in Beit Shemesh, and 7,400 housing units in the Krayot, for a total of over 44,000 housing units."
