Demand doubles for data security developers

Figures from seeV indicate a jump in demand for open code and mobile developers in the past 12 months.

The need to protect the private information found in the all the devices surrounding us - computers, tablets, and smartphones - has caused a boom in information security. Figures from placement agency seeV indicate a 100% jump in demand for information security employees in the second quarter of 2013 over the corresponding quarter of 2012. Demand for user experience (UX) developers rose 62.5% over the same period, while demand for open code developers rose 33%, and demand for mobile developers rose 20%.

seeV says that these trends are stimulated by venture capital funds' wish to invest in companies in these fields. "Demand for web developers, especially for open code technologies, is constantly growing. This is due to entrepreneurs' preference for these technologies, mainly because of the low costs, and convenient technologies, which make it possible to develop a high-quality product in a short time," says seeV business development manager Oren Ben-Shabat.

User experience is a developing field that is expected to grow in the coming years. Many companies now realize that they must make detailed analysis of users' needs and design relevant applications for them. "We foresee that, as consumers develop a 'taste' for the online user experience and, at the same time, surfing volume via mobile devices rises, developers' jobs will become more diversified and important," says Ben-Shabat.

Ben-Shabat says that the number of jobs for information security developers will double in the coming year. Reasons include the huge quantity of information that companies amass and the switch to cloud servers.

seeV also examined average gross salaries in a wide range of high-tech jobs. It found that Java developers with two years experience can earn NIS 14,000-18,000, and that a programmer with five years experience can earn NIS 23,000. A beginner PHP programmer earns NIS 12,000-15,000, and a programmer with five years experience earns NIS 20,000. A .Net programmer with five years experience earns NIS 20,000-24,000, and a .Net team leader earns up to NIS 30,000.

A C++ developer with two years experience earns NIS 14,000-18,000; a team leader earns NIS 26,000 or more. A developer for Android or Apple iOS platforms with two years experience can earn NIS 19,000. A developer with five years relevant experience will earn NIS 25,000 and a team leader will earn at least NIS 30,000.

A UX characterizer with two years experience earns up to NIS 11,000, a developer with five years experience earns NIS 17,000, a person with six or more years experience can earn NIS 18,000-26,000, and a team leader earns NIS 24,000. A beginner in information security starts at NIS 12,000-18,000, and a team leader earns NIS 27,000.
