IDE wins $75m desalination order in Asia

The company will supply "Multi-Effect Distillation" units to one of Asia's largest desalination facilities.

IDE Technologies Ltd. will supply Multi-Effect Distillation (MED) units to a private customer in Asia for $75 million. The MED units will boost the desalination plant's capacity and efficiency.

Each MED unit can produce 24,000 cubic meters of fresh water a day. The units that will be supplied will boost the desalination plant's capacity to 232,000 cubic meters a day, save energy and water pretreatment costs. The units high automation and control systems also reduce the need for operating and maintenance personnel, lowering operating costs.

"IDE's desalination modules prove that environmental awareness, operational innovation, and cost savings can go hand in hand," said IDE president and CEO Avshalom Felber. "We will be happy to assist the water production by this desalination facility, one of the largest facilities in Asia and the world."

IDE is owned by Delek Group Ltd. (TASE: DLEKG) and Israel Chemicals Ltd. (TASE: ICL) in equal shares. The company has built 400 facilities in 40 countries. It operates facilities with a total production capacity of 2.5 million cubic meters of fresh water a day for drinking water and industrial use, including for the mining, refining, and oil and gas industries, and power plants.
