French broadcaster M6, the country's third largest station, is the first foreign station to buy the Israeli interactive talent show "Rising Star" from Keshet Media Group. Keshet will present the format at the MIPCOM fair, which opened in Cannes today.
Sources inform ''Globes'' that France is the first territory to close a deal for "Rising Star", following an auction between broadcasters for the Francophone market.
"There is strong demand for the format, and the sale process began today, long before the fair itself, Keshet International Ltd. managing director Alon Shtruzman told "Globes". "Everyone is interested, and I am constantly fielding calls from producers and broadcasters around the world who are calling and showing unprecedented interest and excitement. We believe that this format will change the rules of the game in television because of the show's strong and important interactive element."
Interest in "Rising Star" was piqued by a story in "Hollywood Reporter", which wondered if it might be the heir of "The Voice" in the talent show genre. Broadcasters worldwide are also very interested because of the format's interactivity via mobile phones, in order to cast votes for the participants.
