The Antitrust Authority is examining suspicion of price fixing by cafe chains, after new chain, Cofix, began offering coffee for NIS 5 a cup.
Media reports claim the owners and executives of large cafe chains fixed prices following Cofix's launch and agreed to lower their prices. The Antitrust Authority's examination could be broadened into an investigation if the suspicions are found to be valid.
To date, only the Rehovot Mall has reacted to Cofix's launch, announcing a two-week discount by participating cafes to offer takeaway coffee at NIS a cup.
"We have a coffee that costs NIS 4-4.50 a cup, including milk. It's not possible to sell good coffee or a croissant for NIS 5," Cafe Cafe owner Ronen Namani told "Globes" earlier this week.
