A third lane will be added in each direction between Havatzelet Hasharon and Zichron Yaakov.
Netivei Israel National Transport Infrastructures Company Ltd. today submitted its NIS 2.2 billion plan to upgrade Road 2 (the Coastal Highway), between Tel Aviv and Haifa. It will add a third lane along the 40-kilometer stretch between Havatzelet Hasharon and Zichron Yaakov.
In addition, an interchange will be built at Jisr a-Zarka, and an ecological passageway for wildlife will be built at the Sharon Park.
The upgrade will make it possible to raise the speed limit on this stretch of the Coastal Highway to 110 km/h.
The 90-kilometer Road 2 is Israel's most congested highway, carrying 87,000 vehicles a day; southbound traffic has risen 5% a year in the past decade, and northbound traffic has risen 4%, causing severe traffic jams during rush hour.
