Lilach Topilsky leading candidate to head Discount Bank

Bank Hapoalim head of retail banking Lilach Asher-Topilsky is the top candidate to succeed Reuven Spiegel.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI) head of retail banking Lilach Asher-Topilsky is the leading candidate to become the next CEO of Israel Discount Bank (TASE: DSCT). Bank of Jerusalem (TASE: JBNK) CEO Uri Paz is another candidate.

Discount Bank's search committee will make its final decision in a few days, and if it picks Asher-Topilsky, she will become the third woman to head Israel's five big banks. Rakefet Russak-Aminoach is CEO of Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) and Smadar Zadik Bino is CEO of First International Bank of Israel (TASE: FTIN).

Asher-Topilsky has a BA in Economics from Tel Aviv University and an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Chicago. Her career at Bank Hapoalim began as a personal assistant to former CEO Shlomo Nehama. She was especially successful as the bank's e-banking director, and was subsequently appointed as head of the strategy division. In 2010, she was appointed head of retail banking and deputy CEO.

Discount Bank CEO Reuven Spiegel will step down in March 2014.
