Roman Abramovich in flying visit to Israel

Russian billionaire Abramovich is not known to be pursuing business interests in Israel, but he was spotted at the venue of a private equity conference.

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has been in Israel for a 48-hour visit. Abramovich, best known here as the owner of London football club Chelsea, attended a private event at the City of David in Jerusalem. He is one of the donors supporting archeological activity at the site.

Yesterday, Abramovich toured Jerusalem's Mahane Yehuda market accompanied by three bodyguards. This morning, he was spotted at Isrotel's Royal Beach Hotel in Tel Aviv, where a private equity conference held by law firm DLA Piper was taking place. Abramovich did not participate in the conference, but he may have held meetings with business people and fund managers there.
