Israel Railways to sponsor Basketball Super League

The agreement is worth NIS 300,000.

The Israel Basketball Super League is continuing to expand the number of sponsors for the 2013-14 season by bringing in Israel Railways.

Basketball Super League chairman Shmuel Frenkel and general manager Edli Markus signed the agreement for one season, under which Israel Railways will pay the Super League NIS 300,000, in exchange for which Israel Railways will have electronic (LED) advertisements at the league's arenas, carry out sales promotions at the arenas, and at the end of the season, will host a whistle-stop campaign by the championship trophy to the cities whose teams playing in the finals.

The collaboration with the Basketball Super League will include media and marketing aspects, including announcement of train schedules to sports events, under the slogan, "Go to the basketball game by train, because the fun begins with the ride."

The Basketball Super League's agreement with Israel Railways continues the policy of approaching government companies, as the private sector is in no hurry to invest in sports in Israel. Besides Israel Railways, the league has signed commercial agreements with Toto - Israel Sports Betting Board (the league's largest sponsor, which is paying NIS 9 million per season, plus NIS 3 million for an "Israeli clause"), the Mifael Hapayis national lottery (the secondary sponsor, which is paying NIS 2.8 million), and most recently with the government television station, Israel Broadcasting Authority, which won the right to air league games (NIS 6 million). Altogether, the government entities will pay the Basketball Super League a maximum of NIS 21.1 million.

Sources believe that, following the expected increase in the Basketball Super League's revenue this season, it will increase its royalties to the clubs.
