The new governor will earn NIS 20,000 a month more than Stanley Fischer.
Hebrew daily "Yediot Ahronot" reports that the salary of Governor of the Bank of Israel Dr. Karnit Flug will be NIS 20,000 more per month than the salary of her predecessor, Prof. Stanley Fischer. She will earn NIS 69,859 per month.
Fischer made sure to secure pay hikes for the Bank of Israel governor and top executives, so that "good people will come to the central bank at a time when salaries at commercial banks are so high." However, Fischer refused to accept the higher salary to avoid the appearance that he had raised his own salary.
The salaries of senior public officials are raised every January 1, in accordance with the rise in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) over the previous year, and in accordance with the average national salary.
