21 Unidentified Bodies Transferred from Funeral Home to Abu Kabir

Fifty-two bodies have been positively identified over the past two days by members of the IDF Rabbinate personnel at the Tel Aviv municipal funeral home. 21 bodies, which Rabbinate were unable to identify, have been transferred to the forensic medicine institute at Abu Kabir, due to their condition. Representatives of the IDF Rabbinate, together with the medical staff, were able to identify another 17 bodies using dental X-rays, among other methods.

Four additional victims underwent DNA testing for positive identification purposes. On Wednesday night, representatives of the medical institute visited the homes of the victims’ families and took blood samples, which were then compared with the DNA of their sons.

The families are now waiting for test results, in order to determine positive identification. On Thursday, the IDF released the names of the 73 victims, killed in the crash.

The IDF has officially notified the families of all the soldiers who were aboard the two helicopters, including those families who have not yet received positive identification.
