Ackerstein: Signs of Curtailed Construction Activity in Early `96

A considerable improvement was recorded in profit, up to NIS 10.2 million in 1995.

Ackerstein Industries wound up a year of great recovery with a profit of NIS 20.2 million in 1995, as compared with NIS 1.2 million in 1994. In the fourth quarter of 1995, the company's profits totalled NIS 3.9 million, further to the improved performances of the previous quarter, resulting from the unprecedented wave of building starts that swept Israel as from the beginning of the year.

The fields of activity of Ackerstein Industries - such as the manufacture and marketing of cement products for environmental development, silicate construction products, concrete tiles etc., and related execution services - are characterised by strong competition.

The revenues of Ackerstein Industries rose to NIS 164.4 million compared to NIS 141.4 million in 1994. As from the beginning of 1995, the company stepped up its volume of activity in the infrastructure products field by introducing new engineering solutions developed by it, and by completing production lines for those products.

In the first quarter of 1996, the closure of the territories and the slowdown in construction activity resulted in a curtailment of the company's volume of operations
