Bain Sells 15,000 Software Licenses in ’97

Most of the licenses sold this year were for the "Manta" version of the Baan IV system, and were sold through Baan’s marketing set up.

Bain (formerly Bina and Networks) general manager Moshe Ha’elion claims the company is undergoing tremendous growth this year, and that by the end of the year, it will have sold 15,000 licenses for its "Manta" software, for the management of engineering information. According to Ha’elion, most of the licenses sold this year were for the "Manta" version of the Baan IV system, and were sold through Baan’s marketing set up.

Ha’elion says that the company tripled its activities this year and grew to a staff of 120 employees. They work at the new Baan House in Kfar Saba, and at Baan’s marketing, support and sales offices in Detroit and Boston in the US, the Netherlands, Germany, and, recently added, Britain. "To date, we have not been affected by the market collapse in the Far East, since that market is not one of our priorities."

Baan Israel general manager Eran Frank said that the company’s presence is felt today in 20 organizations in Israel, in varying degrees, under NT and UNIX environments. According to Frank, work has already started on the adaptation of the financial model software in its multi-currency version to Israeli taxation methods. The adaptation is expected to be completed in the first or second quarter of 1998. At this stage, there is open connectivity to popular financial software packages, such as "Hashavshevet", "Financit", "Zemehashev" and others.

Frank said that small companies are also interested in absorbing the software. For instance, the smallest customer in Israel is a high-tech company which installed a $20,000 system.
