"The best possible choice", is how the Ben-Dror committee, set up as one of the lessons from the Bar-On affair, described the appointment. The government will probably give its approval on Sunday.
The special committee headed by retired judge Mordechai Ben-Dror dealing with senior civil service appointments, yesterday approved the appointment of Efraim Halevy as the next head of the Mossad, "Globes" has learned.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proposed Halevy to the committee. Following the committee’s approval, it is expected the appointment will be approved by the government at its next meeting on Sunday.
The committee came to the conclusion that "this was the best possible choice". It based its conclusion on Halevy’s capabilities and qualifications. The committee also took into account the fact that Halevy had been a senior Mossad member. It was further noted that the committee received no complaints against the proposed candidate.
Halevy replaces the resigning head of the Mossad, reserve general Danny Yatom. O/C Northern Command Amiram Levin, will serve as deputy head of the Mossad.
