MK Benny Begin today warned that if the Likud doesn’t see fit to replace its party leader in time, it will be sentencing itself to severe electoral failure.
In an interview with Voice of Israel radio Begin noted that the Likud is now being run by a group of unrestrained, power-hungry people, headed by someone who treats his friends to fraud and deception.
MK Dan Meridor stated today that he and his associates are not currently planning to resign from the Likud, and their only problem is with the party leader, whom Meridor feels must be replaced.
"The Likud has one, central problem - the prime minister who must be replaced. The Likud must understand these facts and reach the difficult, painful conclusion. Look what has happened in the past year and a half. If we continue down this path, we will bring the Likud down even further. The Likud must understand that this leadership will lead it down and not up," Meridor noted.
Tel Aviv mayor Ronny Milo expressed disappointment at what happened at the party conference. However, he said that he has no plans to withdraw from the Likud at this stage. He reiterated his claim that if Benjamin Netanyahu really wanted to prevent cancellation of the primaries, he would have summoned Avigdor Lieberman and the whole question would have been closed in a matter of minutes.
Minister of Health Joshua Matza rejected calls to replace Netanyahu, as, in his opinion, the Likud must not right now commit political suicide and go to early elections.
