Body Shop Israel (Dr. Fischer) to Market Cosmetics

The chain-store will develop hair dyes and make-up products under a private brand-name, in co-operation with an Italian company. Body Shop Israel is investing $5 million in the opening of 18 new sales outlets.

Body Shop Israel is to develop cosmetic products and hair dyes, which it will market under its own brand-name. In 1997, the company will come out with a special series of cosmetics, based on etheric oils. The product packagings will be recyclable.

The series will include 20 different shades of lipstick, eye-shadow pairs in six shades, eyeliners, lip and eye pencils, blushers (rouge), make-up foundation, concealers etc. The products will be manufactured for Body Shop Israel in Italy, in co-operation with a well- known cosmetics firm. At the initial stage, the success of the products in Israel will be measured, and the decision as to whether or to to export will be made in the light of experience.

At the same time, Body Shop Israel will penetrate the hair dye market, with a special series to be marketed exclusively in its stores under the brand-name "Body Care". This product series will also be exported.

The hair dyes will be manufactured from natural, peroxide and ammonia-free ingredients.

Body Shop Israel will invest $5 million in the expansion of its chain-store, with another 18 outlets over the next three years.

At present, Body Shop Israel has 21 retail outlets. The chain-store recently began marketing the concept of environment-friendly products to the kibbutz sector.

Body Shop Israel's products are developed in the laboratories of Dr. Fischer. Since the company's preparations do not include animal ingredients, they have been accorded special kashrut certification. For Jewish religious consumer purposes, this is an advantage, indeed a solution, and one which boosts sales to the ultra- orthodox sector.
