The Polish communications company Netia, under the control of Dankner Investments, won four Polish Communications Ministry tenders, for the setting up of telephony networks in competition with that of the Polish Telecom company, in four regions in Poland.
Each tender includes a large town and a cluster of smaller towns. The large towns are: Gdansk, Poznan, Krakow, Katowicz. One of the areas in which Netia won the tender includes the town of Chelm, mainly famous for its Jewish folklore tales about the "wise men of Chelm".
The Gdansk tender includes 800,000 inhabitants. Netia already possesses a licence for Gdansk and is at an advanced stage of digging in the suburbs of Gdansk and three other smaller towns. Provision of services is planned to start in a year.
The town of Poznan is the largest in the Poznan District, with 1.4 million inhabitants. Netia has a licence for the Poznan District that it purchased from Optimus. The company set up an Ericsson "local loop wireless" radio station, which will enable rapid penetration to the town, with the winning of the tender.
The town of Krakow has 800,000 inhabitants. Netia has a licence for the Krakow District with 1.3 million inhabitants. In Katowicz there is a cluster of six towns, including the town of Katowicz. Netia has a licence for the entire district, with 4 million inhabitants, which it purchased from Sprint.
The company did not win the fifth tender it competed in, in Chechin. A sixth tender was for the town of Bialistock, in which World Bank Investment Fund (CETI) won. CETI business manager for Poland is Zvi Amid, formerly Bezeq general manager and project manager in Bezkaglov , India.
