This is the first code sharing agreement signed by El Al
and a foreign airline. El Al will instruct American
Airlines how to compare its security standards to those of
the Israeli airline.
El Al airline and American Airlines (AA), the worlds
largest airline, signed a code sharing agreement for
joint flights and cooperation between the two companies.
This is the first code sharing agreement signed by El Al
and a foreign airline. The agreement, signed after two
years of negotiations, opens the Israeli market before
AA.
According to the agreement, El Al passengers will be able to
purchase one flight ticket to over 200 AA destinations in
North America. At a later stage, passengers will be
allowed to purchase tickets to all AA destinations around
the world. AA passengers will be able to reach Israel
with one ticket from any of the company's destinations
around the world, on the same flight code.
Code sharing agreements in the past several years have
become popular among international airlines seeking to
increase the number of destinations. Major code sharing
agreements were signed by German Lufthansa and U.S.
United airlines, and British Airways and U.S. Air.
