Electric Fuel Corporation recently received FAA approval for a new product SurvivaLite, a battery powered, water-activated survivor locator. Such devices are attached to the life vests required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on all over-water
commercial flights. Similar systemms are also used with Coast Guard-approved life vests for marine craft. Electric Fuel plans to make first deliveries in the second quarter of 1996, and has already received an initial order for 60,000 lights over the next two years.
Unlike the refuelable zinc-air battery system for electric vehicles, Electric-Fuel's main product, SurvivaLite, runs on a water-activated magnesium copper-chloride battery.
