Geotek is seeking to penetrate the Korean market, and is bidding with a
consortium of local companies for a nationwide trunked mobile license to be
operated in Korea. The consortium includes the Anam Group, Hyundai
Electronics Industry Co., Ltd., Korea Mobile Telecom, Sangyong Group and
Korea Express Co. The bid is based on Geotek's wireless services network and
offers the digital FHMA technology. This consortium was granted a trial
license by the Korean government in connection with the bid and began
operating an FHMA demonstration system in Seoul, Korea in January. The award
is expected within the next four months, and would cover a population of
more than 45 million people. Korea is one of the fastest growing markets for
business, ranking eleventh among world economies. The country has one of the
highest market penetrations of wireless services in the world.
