Gilat’s second quarter net profit was $1 million, 173% higher than last year.
Gilat Communications has received orders from three customers in Brazil and Chile for distance learning systems, worth altogether $1.3 million. The systems include a study center and equipment for remote classes, and will be supplied in the second half of the year.
On publishing its second quarter financial statements, the company announced that it was considering entering satellite multi-channel television broadcasting (DBS), and was setting up a consortium that would include some of Israel’s main organisations in the fields of communications, distribution, and finance, with the aim of obtaining a license.
It was reported in the past that Gilat Communications had set up a venture for entering this area with Lidan Investments, controlled by Ezra Harel, and the two companies are negotiating with Bezeq and Eurocom over setting up a consortium.
They are also negotiating with US content providers. Gilat’s second quarter net profit was $1 million, 173% higher than last year. Net profit for the first six months was $1.6 million, a rise of 192%.
